Explore Prince Whipple’s service in the New Hampshire militia, his firsthand exposure to the debates surrounding independence, and the influence he and other Black voices had on the evolving ideals of liberty and equality embodied in the aspirational phrase, “all men are created equal.” Examine as well the development of the Petition for Freedom and its role in the broader struggle for rights and freedom.
